ONE FINE DAY

Friday, September 22nd, 2006

Since Thursday night, I’ve been thinking about not coming to Pedia Decury the following day. Paano kulang-kulang yung history ng patient na kinuha ko. I forgot to ask for the name of the mother, who is the informant, and her obstetrical history. I also forgot to ask the patient’s birthday and the milestones in his growth and development; forgot to measure the head circumference, the chest circumference (not sure if this should still be included) and the height. I wasn’t able to do anything, even the draft; I didn’t know where to begin. I felt wala akong kwentang historian. Nawalan ako ng gana.

Another reason why I’m not feeling it (or up for it) is because of what we were told before. We were asked if we have our diagnostic sets. E not everyone of us has it. I would never forget this line… "You should have it. Hindi nyo ata gusto maging doktor, you’re just here for the kicks."

Kicks this. Go to fullsize image

We’re spending almost every peso we have for med school and we’re just here for the kicks?? What’s up with that? Just because each and everyone of us doesn’t have a diagnostic set means we’re just here for the kicks?? How much does a diagnostic set cost? It’s not just hundreds of pesos, we’re talking thousands here. Not everyone in med school was born with a silver spoon in the mouth at lalong hindi kame tumatae ng pera. If we can get away without buying that set, why not right? Bawas gastos din yun.

Anyway, I had decided not to come to class since I don’t have my history. But Tom let me have a copy of the history they did, and even gave me 3 pages of yellow paper. Since we were out early and I still have time to re-type the history then have it printed, I thought I wouldn’t skip class that time. While waiting for my turn to use Alex’s laptop, Meg and Lalaine asked if we can do the decury earlier (beside the fact that it sucks to wait, we need to get home early to study - 2 long exams the following day). I wouldn’t be able to do the history so I told them that they go ahead and I’ll just miss the class. Then Jovanni called me and handed me a printed copy of the history he did (with my name on it!). I asked him earlier if I can copy his history but I don’t remember him saying anything about it so I was really surprised that he made me a copy of it. He’s an angel. I was really touched. Sobrang natuwa ako. Pwede na ko pumasok. Unfortunately, the class was re-scheduled. So our group just discussed about our paper for Parasitology.

Later in the afternoon, Marms and Alex bought ice cream which they shared with me (the third wheel). Haha! So sweet..

It’s been a week since the BAD DAY I had, wala lang. I feel very fortunate today.

One last thing, I lost my umbrella so I went home like a basang-sisiw for 2 consecutive rainy evenings. But for tonight, it’s different, I was able to get home without even a drop of rainwater on my nose. There were no stars in the sky but it didn’t rain on my way home.

Akashi Bridge

Saturday, January 21st, 2006

Akashi-Kaikyo Bridge  Kagabi, nanood ako sa National Geographic Channel. Megastructures yung palabas at fineature dun yung Akashi suspension bridge sa Japan. Ang naturang bridge ay holder ng tatlong Guinness Record namely: (1)TALLEST, its two towers measure 928 ft., almost as high as the Eiffel Tower; (2)LONGEST, it stretches 12,828 ft. across; and (3) MOST EXPENSIVE, worth 4.3 billion dollars, this much money can buy the Yankees 5 times over!

Dahil sa isang trahedya kaya itinayo ang bridge na ito. It took 3 decades to plan and 10 years to build. Japan, you’re the man! Astig!
